I love gunpowder art. not just because it involves gunpowder either. I like the fact that it happens it a moment, and it is the effect of that moment that is captured in the art. a lot of time and preparation goes into the set up and then it's all over in a second. it's kind of like pottery in a way, because you need to know what things will look like after, like with glazes. and it's energy caught in a moment, i think thats the biggest draw. the energy potential in gunpowder is amazing, and combustion in general has brought us to this point in our history. not that it's a good thin g but it has all the draw of a guilty pleasure.

Manipulated Images

A better question would be what images aren't manipulated. Images in them selves are manipulations, intended to provoke an intended emotion/thought. i'd say that photos of nature aren't manipulated but they still force us to look through one window.
Some are obvious fakes, like this
but you must constantly be aware that YOU are being manipulated. ask yourselves questions about what you see, and why that is all that you see.

So i went and looked at Wells sculpture exhibit. I didn't like it at first, it looked uninspired and boring. but i kept at it and I looked all around and it left me puzzled. I couldn't figure out what she was trying to say. obviously she is trying to draw parallels between sex and nature, putting vaginas and dicks into wood and trees, but that was all i got. i thought it was a good concept but it was unfinished. maybe a uniting piece would have helped, or more explanation, but there was none to be found. anyway i was not impressed

So this is supposed to be an Art blog, which is not what I've been doing(sorry Joe). So I'll write about art now. but whats the difference? good art should reflect reality, show the world through your own rose colored glasses. but there is a fine line as well, you can make something that is just crap. there is a trend in art to accept everything as art when sometimes it's just crap. even if it's a critique on society soup cans are soup cans. four different colors of Marilyn Monroe is just lazy, not an opinion on pop culture.
it has nothing on great art, Picasso, Leonardo, whistler, there were people who saw their environment and tried to interpret it through their medium. and then there are people who get all drugged up and think that they get inspired, when really they are drugged up and thats what drugs do. I've seen some twisted shit in Anderson that can only be a creation of someone with a headfull of narcotics, or some deep seeded personal issues (not mutually exclusive).
I feel that good art captures something intangible, a fleeting moment or feeling that is expressed visually

The Geneva particle accelerator comes online tomorrow. At a combined cost of 5 billion dollars, scientists (new priests) will now be able to smash protons together in an attempt to recreate the big bang, the biggest explosion in history. the apes with attitude strike again, asking if they can do something not if they should do something. I hope they just destroy Switzerland, nothing against the swiss but i don't want to die for science.
